Welcome to Political Suicide!
We're live!
Everyone likes to see and talk to people who believe in what they say and stand up for their beliefs, no matter what the political persuasion. Just take Ann Coulter as an example. Love her or hate her, right or wrong, she takes a stand and doesn't back off. That's kind of the idea for this website. Political Suicide will attempt to be a website where everyone on all sides of the political spectrum will be able to comment, face-off and debate any issue under the sun. Some of the planned features are:
- free blogspace for leaving your opinion (implemented)
- live chats and news articles (implemented)
- head-to-head debates with real-time scoring from community rated "referrees" and commenters (coming soon)
- hopefully, an authoratative database of head-to-head debates and links to resources about the various topics (implemented just need content!)
- self-organized "editorial board" blogs where groups of members can put out collaborative opinions. Hopefully, there will be coalitions with both sides offering carefully planned, well-researched and documented opinions (coming soon)
The idea for this website came from my own dissatisfaction with most of the current political websites. *Very* few of them offered a place where people on both sides of an issue could come together and discuss the issues. This polarization of the media into smaller and more extreme websites may appeal to those who just want an echo chamber but not to those of us that want to get to the bottom of issues and attempt to see all sides of that issue without having to go to a myriad of websites.
And if any of this appeals to any Plone/Python programmers out there, send me an email at paleoATpoliticalsuicideDOTorg as I'd love to have you on the programming team!

BTW, the guiding words of this site are literally Albert Einstein's last written words. I thought his words were still very relevant to today's political climate and recognize the commitment one must make to stand up for your views, which is what this site is all about.
When Einstein died on April 18, 1955 he left a piece of writing ending in an unfinished sentence. These were his last words: "In essence, the conflict that exists today is no more than an old-style struggle for power, once again presented to mankind in semireligious trappings. The difference is that, this time, the development of atomic power has imbued the struggle with a ghostly character; for both parties know and admit that, should the quarrel deteriorate into actual war, mankind is doomed. Despite this knowledge, statesmen in responsible positions on both sides continue to employ the well-known technique of seeking to intimidate and demoralize the opponent by marshaling superior military strength. They do so even though such a policy entails the risk of war and doom. Not one statesman in a position of responsibility has dared to pursue the only course that holds out any promise of peace, the course of supranational security, since for a statesman to follow such a course would be tantamount to political suicide. Political passions, once they have been fanned into flame, exact their victims..."
